The San Diego Padres will make the short trek north to battle the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday in the third game of a four-game set. The opening series between the two squads happened last weekend.

Los Angeles was victorious in two of the three games. Nevertheless, San Diego won last Sunday, and the pitching matchup in this game is the same. Blake Snell will pitch against Trevor Bauer in what should be another fantastic game.

First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 9:10 pm ET from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

The First Series

The Dodgers and the Padres met last Friday through Sunday in their first three-game set. The Dodgers won the first two games before the Padres rallied to win last Sunday. The scores do not reflect how close these games were on the field.

Game one lasted five hours and went 12 innings. The Dodgers won 11-6, thanks to a Corey Seager home run in the 12th inning with no outs. Los Angeles continued pouring onto its lead after the shortstop’s bomb.

The next day, both offenses were minimal, as the Dodgers won 2-0. Clayton Kershaw tossed one of the best games we have seen of late. Los Angeles capped off the victory with a Mookie Betts walk-off catch in the outfield.

If Betts had not recorded the out, the Padres would have tied the game in the final inning. In the last game, the Dodgers collapsed late, and Eric Hosmer led the Padres to victory. He hit a game-tying double and a go-ahead single in his final two at-bats of the game.

Snell vs. Bauer

Pitching is always fun to watch when the Padres and Dodgers collide. On Saturday, we will get to see two former Cy Young Award winners compete once again. No doubt that America’s Bookie will have a tight, sharp line for this one.

Snell and Bauer each received no-decisions on Sunday because of the offensive gridlock. Nevertheless, they have both pitched well in 2021. Snell has not picked up a win yet, but he has recorded 24 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings.

Bauer is my early choice for the National League Cy Young. Bauer won the award last year, and he has not skipped a beat in 2021. The pitcher is 2-0 with a league-leading 26 innings pitched.

His ability to go deep into games has been very beneficial for the Dodgers. He has recorded 36 strikeouts and has a 2.42 ERA. 

The Matchup

The Dodgers and Padres will compete 19 total times this season. Saturday will be the sixth meeting of the year. I think Los Angeles will win most of the games in the season series.

It’s hard to bet against a team as good as the Dodgers any night of the week. Betts should be back in the lineup on Saturday following a forearm injury. Bauer has not shown any signs of weakness in 2021.

The Dodgers are going to win on Saturday because Los Angeles’ bats will get to Snell. San Diego is excellent, but there is still a gap between it and the Dodgers.
