A.J. Green Injury Update; Will The Bengals Trade Their Star Wide Receiver?

A.J. Green tore ligaments in his ankle during the first practice of training camp way back on July 27 and he has been making progress but a timeline for his return has not been announced.

On September 11 Green talked for the first time since his injury and discussed his progress.

"It's just one of those things that has to heal on its own. When I feel I'm healthy enough to play at the level I'm used to playing, I just want to make sure it's at 100 percent," Green said.

"Everybody knows what I'm capable of doing if healthy. All I can do is play like I have the last nine years and it will take care of itself. You never know. It's a business," Green said. "I have no intention of holding out. I'm not going to do anything crazy. I just want to play football."

The star wide receiver, who had surgery on July 30, missed seven games with a toe injury last season and this is the last year of his contract with the Bengals, as he can become an unrestricted free agent in the 2020 offseason.

With the Bengals having very little chances of making the playoffs, making Green take his time to get back to full strength is a smart move but there are also rumors about the team considering trading him.

Green responded to the rumors saying: "I'm prepared for anything." "A trade's not going to change who I am. I'm still going to play. I'm still going to be A.J."

The potential landing spots for the seven-time Pro Bowler include the Raiders, Eagles and Patriots. A.J. Green missed the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career last year because he was dealing with his toe injury.

He caught 46 passes for 694 receiving yards and six touchdowns in nine games last season and he has averaged 80.2 receiving yards per game over eight years with the Bengals. He has been able to collect over 1,000 receiving yards in six of his eight seasons in the league.
