Sean's Top MLB Rotations for 2016

I touched a few days ago on who and why I thought were the 5 worse rotations. Today, I look at the other end and focus on who my best rotations are.

1. NEW YORK METS - I'm a Yankees fan, so it pains me to type this. But the Mets, with Harvey, DeGrom and Syndergaard at the top, followed by Matz and Colon/Wheeler rounding out the staff. Wow. We have some hard throwing, strike out tossing arms. Just trotting these guys out has you in the game for 6 or 7 innings without worrying about scoring a run.

2. CLEVELAND INDIANS - Ok. A stretch for some, maybe. I know the bats need some work for sure. But when you have a Cy Young winning in Kluber (245Ks), followed by young guys who mow down hitters, Carlos Carrasco (216Ks -183innings), Danny Salazar (195Ks -185innings) rounding out a triple threat at the top of the rotation. Then Trevor Bauer who struck out 170 in 175 innings in the 4 spot and Josh Tomlin, who went 7-2 in 10 starts at 5. If Carlos Santana can find a good power groove, Kipnis and Lindor in the middle, a healthy Brantley (big IF), these guys could be your surprise AL Central Winner.

3. WASHINGTON NATIONALS - Matt Scherzer is a beast, 276Ks last year. Stephen Strasburg will probably never be what he was when he first came up, but is still a great #2. Gio Gonzalez is a very good 3. Joe Ross is a nice looking young arm. Tanner Roark and ageless Bronson Arroyo add depth. I have the Nats here because I can't the line-up being hit with so many injuries this season. They should hammer the rebuilding Phils and Braves along with the Mets to see who takes the NL East.

4. SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS - Might seem like another shocker to some since you won't be see the Dodgers here. But Madison Bumgarner is a good as a #1 as any. New addition Johnny Cueto will like pitching in this park and has had much success as a #1 with the Reds. Jeff Samardzija, I think, will improve with the move to the NL and pitching in this ballpark. If they get anything close to above .500 pitching from vets Jake Peavy and Matt Cain, the Giants should really be in a good spot to be playing for their even-years World Series history.

5. CHICAGO CUBS - So, I really didn't want to close out the Top 5 with these guys. But the line-up says it will make up for what I think will be a slight drop off for Jake Arrieta. Jon Lester will be the same or post better numbers than last year. Ageless John Lackey will bring his leadership. You could do worse than Jason Hammel and Kyle Hendricks at the back of your rotation. When you have a stud line-up, you can make average pitchers shine.

Bonus Teams

YANKEES - Believe it or not, trotting out Tanaka, Severino, Pineda and Eovaldi should win you some games. The question is what do Tex and ARod have left in the tank.

ASTROS - Not a sex bunch, but they cashed for us, and all of their backers last year. I don't see much drop off from Keuchel. Arms behind should be steady.

DODGERS - Kershaw and Kazmir. And after that, well, we will see what happens. They have money and big names. True wild-card in every sense of the word.

CARDINALS - How do you even count out these guys?
