For the Washington Football Team, Sunday night is really easy. Win and go to the playoffs as the NFC East Division champion. Lose and go home. Philadelphia has no incentive Sunday night other than to end their division rival’s season. A win might also save head coach Doug Pederson and some of his staff members their jobs. For bettors, it’s a bit more difficult. CLOSE OUT THE YEAR WITH A BANG AT 1VICE.AG Game: Washington Football Team (6-9, 8-6-1 ATS) at Philadelphia Eagles (4-10-1, 5-10 ATS) When: 8:20 PM ET, Sunday, January 3, 2020 Where: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Current Line: WAS -1.5 Total: 43.5 TV Coverage: FOX When the line on this game opened, Washington was a 1.5-point underdog. The Football Team had just lost to Carolina and the quarterback situation was looking bleak. Former first-round pick Dwayne Haskins turned his night at the strip club and awful Week 16 performance into a permanent ticket out of town when the team released him early this week. With Haskins gone and Alex Smith expected to start, the line shifted and Washington is now the favorite. If you were fortunate enough to get Washington as an underdog, pat yourself on the back. Road underdogs coming off a loss since last season are 86-63-5 ATS (55.8 percent). But, Washington is no longer the underdog. Must Read > Smart Bettors Use Multiple Sportsbooks Now, the Football Team has been good to bettors recently with five covers in the last six games. Washington is also 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, but the Football Team is just 2-5 ATS in the last seven games against Philadelphia. Philadelphia, as mentioned, has no real incentive on Sunday night other than knocking their rival out of the playoffs. They will also be short-handed in attempting to do so. Much of their front seven is questionable and they are missing several offensive linemen. The Eagles give up a league-worst 4.1 sacks per game. Even the fleet-footed Hurts has been sacked nine times in the last two games. The Eagles managed just 17 points last week against a Dallas defense that has been one of the NFL’s worst this year. Washington’s defense will likely end the 2020 season third in DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average) which takes into account the quality of opponents. Rookie DE Chase Young is a demon and pro cappers see him becoming one of the best edge rushers in the game. Washington also has RB Antonio Gibson, one of the more underrated backs in the NFL. Gibson has averaged 5.9 yards per carry in his last four games and has 70-plus rushing yards in 10 of his games. With some rain in the forecast for Sunday, the Football Team might give Gibson a heavy dose of the rock. A solid Washington defense will wreak havoc on a depleted Philadelphia offensive line. When you mix it all together, Sunday night’s game has all the ingredients of an Under. Plus, consider the last four straight Washington games have all gone Under and six of the last nine Eagles games have hit the Under.
