Arizona State vs. Fresno State (NCAAF) - 3:30 PM EST Premium Pick
Pick: Money Line: -207 Fresno State Rating: 10* Mike's 1st Smiling Cobra 10 Star College Bowler (WIN)
There's one big playmaker that HC Herm Edwards doesn't have for this one. He's none other than WR N'Keal Harry (73 receptions for 1,088 receiving yards & 9 TD's) whose guarding his stock for a chance @ getting picked in the 1st round of the NFL Draft on April 25th in Nashville. HC Jeff Tedford (a very successful 6-3 SU in bowls) is licking his chops as he prepares his defense (who already played here this season vs. U.N.L.V.) to take on a pretty much one-dimensional offense. DC Bert Watts knows the drill in pressuring QB Manny Wilkins out of the multiple-front 4-3 scheme (left by LY's DC Orlondo Steinhauer who left to be HC of the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats) & is ready to key on the lone workhorse left for the Sun Devils in RB Emo Benjamin (1,524 yards rushing, 247 yards receiving). My bottom line says these Bulldogs ARE playing for something. A 12th-win here sets an all-time school record for a team that was just 1-11 SU 2 years ago before Tedford took over. Look for senior QB Marcus McMarylon & Co. to be used to what's going to be thrown @ them - Arizona State's 3-3-5 defensive scheme. The dagger for us has to be Fresno State's 2nd-ranked scoring defense (& #1 in Red Zone Defense) that held the Boise State offense to 16 points on the blue turf in the Mountain West Conference Championship 2 weeks ago. Remember, PAC-12 teams are a miserable 4-11 SU & a no-show 2-13 ATS the past 2 post-seasons. Our X-Factor here is HC Tedford (8-2 SU vs. ASU when @ Cal) whose a dynamic 21-6 SU after inheriting a 1-11 team! Let's go to Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Bowl to play the FRESNO STATE BULLDOGS as 1st Smiling Cobra 10 Star College Bowler!
NOTES: Herm Edwards & Co. made a gallant effort playing to a 17-17 halftime tie. Even though QB Marcus McMaryion (an Oregon State transfer 2 years ago) had an 0/2 TD/INT ratio, RB Ronnie Rivers was the true MVP of the Las Vegas Bowl rushing for 212 yards as the Bulldogs pulled away for a 31-20 win. Congratulations goes out to HC Jeff Tedford & his FSU squad for notching a school-record 12th win of the season. Stick with us as we dominate another college bowl season!
