Sunday, September 15, 2019 Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennessee Titans (NFL) - 1:00 PM EDT Premium Pick Pick: Point Spread: 3.5/-117 Indianapolis Colts Rating: 8* Mike's NFL Earlybird Dependable (WIN) As a review of last week, this is NOT the same Jacoby Brissett (21-for-27 & 2 TD's) we were accustomed to seeing 2 years back when he took over for an injured Andrew Luck. Having grasped HC Frank Reich's system for a year speaks louder than words. last week, the Indianapolis defense played good enough for the "W". However, they had to contend with Adam Vinatieri having one of his roughest outings by missing 2 FG's & an extra point. Off the front line on "D", LB Darius Leonard & S Malik Hooker are setting the tone as it's pivotal for them to disrupt Mariota's rhythm. Speaking of Mariota, his 3 TD passes last week were so rare that it represented the first time he did that since November 2016! There is also a situational edge on the side of the Colts as Tennessee has to operate knowing there's another key AFC South divisional battle with the Jaguars on Thursday. My bottom line points out that Indy shouldn't perform like turnover-prone Cleveland which should leave them in it to win it. The Titans are a run-heavy squad that relies heavily on RB Derrick Henry (19 rushes for 84 yards versus the Browns). You just can't ignore the improvement with Indianapolis RB Marlon Mack who gashed a good Chargers' "D" for 174 yards on the ground. Even though Brissett is 0-2 SU versus Tennessee, that was under a whole different offensive system. There's also major emphasis that needs to be put on divisional underdogs this season. After this Thursday's tilt in nearby Charlotte, divisional underdogs come into Sunday with a take-me-to-the-window-quick 5-1 ATS record! So we'll gladly go to Nissan Stadium in Nashville to play the INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (buying to a key + 4 1/2) as my 8* NFL Earlybird Dependable! Seattle Seahawks vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL) - 1:00 PM EDT Premium Pick Pick: Money Line: -185 Pittsburgh Steelers Rating: 9* Mike's NFL Strongest Play On The Board (LOSS) For those of you who remember Steelers' early season embarrassments, let me take you back just 3 seasons ago. Pittsburgh went to Philadelphia in Week 3 by a 34-3 count. What happened the following week when playing the Kansas City Chiefs? They more than rose to the occasion after beating Andy Reid & Co. soundly 43-14. Am I suggesting a 4 TD blowout win again? No, but there's many things pointing smack dab toward the Steelers' way. HC Pete Carroll & his Seahawks have teetered on being slow out of the gate (0-8-1 ATS their last 9 & 1-12-1 ATS in their last 14 road openers) in September (lost on the road to Denver & Chicago in their first 2 roadies last season). Lucky for them, they drew Cincinnati @ home to start their season last week. Seattle DC Ken Norton, Jr. doesn't have the Legion of Boom secondary @ his disposal anymore. That was clearly evident last week when Cincinnati's Andy Dalton acted like it was nothing to shred that "D" for 418 passing yards (out-gaining them 429-233 in total yards) in front of their 12th man. On the other side of the ball, QB Russell Wilson was feeling the effects of losing WR Doug Baldwin. In Week 1, the Hawks' appeared a little run-heavy yet still was an alarming just under a 12 minute deficit in time of possession. They now take on a breathing fire Pittsburgh team that have 2 very fresh running backs (James Connor & Jaylen Samuels) who didn't get much exposure @ New England where they rushed a combined 12 times. Let's start to crunch some serious numbers. QB Ben Roethlisberger has played the Seahawks twice in his career @ this venue. What were those outcomes? Try 24-0 & 21-0 with both ending in Black n' Gold shutout victories. If we dig a little further, after Roethlisberger is coming off an ATS loss of more than 18 points, he's brought Steel Town all the way back all 8 times its happened to a SU & an ATS victory. When we look @ Pittsburgh coming out of the gate in their home opener, we also find a lights-out 12-2 SU record their last 14. HC Mike Tomlin has also been super-solid when @ home after giving up more than 30 points in a loss by 6 or more. In this situation, the Steelers have gone a near-perfect 9-1 both SU & ATS. The dagger for us HAS to be how well Roethlisberger was protected in OBVIOUS catch-up mode against the Patriots. In 47 drop-backs, the NE registered just 1 sack. With west-coaster Seattle going east for a 1 PM start, let's go to Heinz Field by the three rivers to play the PITTSBURGH STEELERS as my 9* NFL Strongest Play On The Board! NOTES: We won 4 in a row to start the NFL season with that Indy win but dropped to 80% on the year suffering a bitter (28-26) 2-point loss on Pittsburgh (now 0-2). Even though the Colts game analysis was true to form, our chances took a MAJOR hit to stay perfect when both QB Ben Roethlisberger & RB James Connor left the game midway through with injuries. Roethlisberger suffered a season-ending elbow injury. After Seattle QB Russell Wilson shredded the Steelers' "D" for 300 yards & 3 TD's on 29 for 35 passing. DC Keith Butler lost the 2nd half chess match when Seahawks' OC Brian Schottenheimer switched up to a quick-strike offense where Russell Wilson put up 21 second-half points after trailing @ the half, 10-7. As a result, the Black N' Gold immediately went out & snagged S Minkah Fitzpatrick (2nd season out of Alabama) from the Dolphins to aid a secondary in need of more playmakers. This week, it seems like the Mason Rudolph era has begun in Steel Town. He'll gladly welcome back RB James Connor from injury in a tough west coaster @ 2-0 San Francisco (first time with a 2-0 start in 7 seasons). Besides Rudolph, eyes will ALSO be on the new Saints' QB Teddy Bridgewater who is pitching in relief of an injured Drew Brees (who is scheduled to come back around Week 10 in November following their bye week). Let's put the Ravens under the microscope & see how they handle KC on the road @ Arrowhead. Be back as we assault the NFL again in Week 3!
