A pair of NL pennant contenders meet up this weekend for a weekend series in San Diego. The Padres are a popular pick to win the World Series, but they face a New York Mets team that is solid. San Diego is one of the best offensive teams in the league, and that lineup has plenty of talent. New York has struggled to score, but they have a terrific pitching staff. The Mets entered June in first place in the National League East, but they have plenty of teams chasing them. New York does not have much margin for error, and that could be an issue this weekend. OPEN YOUR OWN SPORTSBOOK TODAY San Diego entered June in second place in the NL West, and right on track with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres are still trying to prove that they can play well for an entire season. This should be a great series, but the best game takes place on Saturday. DeGrom on Mound for Mets When Jacob DeGrom takes the mound for the Mets, it is simply must-see television. Not only does DeGrom throw the ball over 100 MPH, but he is always capable of doing something historic. The Mets ace has pitched to an ERA of just 0.71 this season, but his record is just 4-2 on the year. DeGrom doesn’t always get a ton of run support, and he sometimes has to drive in runs on his own. Pete Alonso is back in the lineup for the Mets, and that should help the offense take off. New York is one of the worst hitting teams in baseball, but they have the talent to flip the switch. Editor’s Choice > NFL Team Totals Betting Guide, Tips & Strategies Padres Can Really Score San Diego is led by Fernando Tatis Jr., and the shortstop continues to put up big numbers. Tatis has dealt with some minor injuries but is still in the MVP conversation in the National League. Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer have been slumping a bit, and that has hurt the Padres of late. San Diego will eventually figure it out, but facing DeGrom could continue the recent slide of the offense. Blake Snell will pitch on Saturday night, and he has struggled to begin his career in San Diego. Snell has gone just 1-2 with a 5.55 ERA, but he will be facing a bad lineup in this one. We haven’t lost on our free pick in a while. Take a look at our Hornets at Knicks betting preview to see our win! DeGrom Delivers Another Win The San Diego Padres might be able to score, but no one scores on Jacob DeGrom. DeGrom is easily the best pitcher in baseball, and he seems to just keep getting better with age. New York will have to find some offense on Saturday to give DeGrom some run support. If the Mets are able to score at least three runs then that should be more than enough. Facing the Padres offense is a challenge for any pitcher, and it’s one that DeGrom wants. Look for the former NL Cy Young Award winner to pitch his team to a victory over San Diego.
