LeBron James Is Thriving As A Point Guard The Lakers have the best record in the NBA and a lot of it has to do with LeBron James' performance at point guard. James has thrived in his new role, as I write this he leads the NBA with 11.0 assists per game (a career-best). He is also averaging 25.6 points and 7.4 rebounds in 35.2 minutes over 17 games, shooting 49.3 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from 3-point range. Looking at his advanced stats we can see that he has an incredible plus-7.0 Offensive Box Plus/Minus (OBPM), which means that he contributes an estimate of 7.0 offensive points per 100 possessions above a league-average player, translated to an average team. For those who say that he no longer plays defense, he has a plus-2.2 Defensive Box Plus/Minus (DBPM), which means that he contributes an estimate of 2.2 defensive points per 100 possessions above a league-average player, translated to an average team. Overall, he has a plus-9.2 Box Plus/Minus (BPM), so he contributes 9.2 points per 100 possessions above a league-average player, translated to an average team. Last year he had a plus-8.1 Box Plus/Minus (BPM) in 55 games, so there's clearly a significant improvement. ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins, a former teammate of James in Cleveland recently said: "LeBron did tell me that he was going to reclaim his throne in due time and got damn it he's on a mission right now. 3 Straight Triple Doubles and the season just started! Feel sorry for the rest of the league!!! God Bless America"
