Grade 2 Beverly D. Stakes | Colonial Downs | Race 10 | August 9
#3 Beach Bomb (4-1) Win-Place
Beach Bomb began her five-year-old campaign with a gate-to-wire victory in the Grade 3 Very One Stakes at Gulfstream Park on March 1, followed by another front-running victory in the Grade 3 Orchid Stakes on March 29, where she prevailed by a head. Two starts back, she finished 2nd in the Grade 3 Sheepshead Stakes at Belmont. In her last start on June 6, She Feels Pretty defeated Beach Bomb by a half-length in the Grade 1 New York Stakes at Saratoga on a yielding turf course. She Feels Pretty returned to run a solid second in the Grade 1 Diana Stakes on July 12. Beach Bomb owns the fastest late-pace speed figure and has finished in the top 2 in 11 of 15 races. Beach Bomb is the only horse in the field with no changes (jockey, distance, Lasix) and the only horse with a placing (2nd) at this unique distance. Luis Saez has led her to two wins and one second place in three races.
