The Super Bowl is the biggest betting event of the year for American sportsbooks and for many bookie operations from around the world, and fans from all over celebrate every beginning of February, because they know what’s coming. This year is no exception, and after a semi-chaotic season, where games had to be moved around due to Covid-19 reasons, we now celebrate that no games had to be cancelled, and that we now reach the final days of the season, and the two best teams in the league await in Tampa Bay, Buccaneers vs Chiefs, for Super Bowl LV, and we just can’t wait to see what happens. But we’re not talking only about the two best teams in the league, we’re also talking about the two best quarterbacks, or at least two of the three top ones, because we can’t leave Aaron Rodgers out of this conversation, to be fair, after all, he will probably win the MVP award this season. But for Super Bowl matters, let’s focus on what we have, and it’s the league’s best quarterback of the past two decades, Tom Brady, a 6-time Super Bowl winner, against the league’s hottest young blood, NFL MVP of 2018, Super Bowl MVP last year, and now defending champ, Patrick Mahomes. There are many different storylines for this Super Bowl, but for many, it ends up in this, either Tom Brady wins his 7th ring in 10 Super Bowl and claims the GOAT award once and for all, or Mahomes beats the master and becomes the new king of the NFL. So, who’s had a better season in numbers? Let’s see. Tom Brady vs. Patrick Mahomes in numbers, 2020-2021 NFL season Tom Brady threw a total of 4633 passing yards this season, for a total of 40 TD passes and 12 INT’s. Brady threw 610 passes, out of which he completed 401, for a 65.74% completion rate. He was sacked 21 times during the season. He had 30 rushing attempts for only 6 rushing yards, but they meant 3 rushing TD’s for the former New England Patriots’ QB. His QB rating for the season was 102.2. On the other hand, Patrick Mahomes had a total of 4740 passing yards and 38 passing TD’s, with only 6 INT’s and 22 sacks during the season. He completed 390 of 588 passes, for a 66.33 completion rate, he had a lot more rushing attempts, 68, and rushing yards, 308, than Brady, but only 2 rushing TD’s. His QB rating for the season was 108.2.
Deshaun Watson was the league’s leader in total passing yards, with 4823, while Mahomes was second and Brady third. On the total passing TD list, Aaron Rodgers was the leader with 48, while Brady tied with Russell Wilson, with 40 each, and Mahomes was fourth with 38. What does this mean for the QB matchup for Super Bowl LV? Mahomes is favorite according to many pay per head sportsbooks to have better numbers this Super Bowl. On QB props he is favorite to get more passing yards, with a handicap of almost 40, he’s favorited to have more completions, to throw the first TD pass, to throw more TD passes, and to have more passing attempts, while Brady is favorite to throw the first INT. Mahomes is favorite to throw Over 2.5 TD passes, while for Brady, they favorite the Under 2.5 TD passes. One thing is for sure, we hope they stay safe and healthy until the day of the game, because if they do, this is going to be epic!
