Michigan State spent the first part of the season ranked in the top-25, but things have changed in a hurry for the Spartans. They have now lost two straight games, and will be taking on another top-10 opponent this weekend. Penn State will be in East Lansing for a showdown with the Spartans, and the Nittany Lions have dreams of winning the Big Ten Championship this season. Michigan State is now just 4-3 on the season, and they are just 2-2 in Big Ten play. The Spartans have lost two straight games to ranked opponents, and got outscored by a total of 72-10 in those losses. Michigan State can still make a bowl game this season, but they must start winning games. Penn State is a perfect 7-0 this season, and they are 4-0 in conference games. The Nittany Lions sit atop the Big Ten standings along with Ohio State, and they can’t afford to slip up in this game. Penn State is a -5.5 point favorite over Michigan State in this huge Big Ten showdown. The biggest reason for the two straight losses by the Michigan State Spartans has been their lack of offense. Scoring 27.8 points per game might seem like a good total, but the Spartans have been much worse on offense in Big Ten games. Quarterback Brian Lewerke has struggled with his accuracy in recent weeks, but has still thrown for over 1,500 yards this season. Running back Elijah Collins leads the team with 492 rushing yards, but the Spartans have just six rushing touchdowns all season long. The Spartans are going to have to score some points to keep up with the Nittany Lions. Michigan State was supposed to have one of the best defenses in the Big Ten this season, but suddenly they look less than average. The Spartans have now given up over 21 points per game, and they were gashed in their most recent loss to Wisconsin. Michigan State does have 20 sacks so far this season, and they will need to dial up the pressure to beat Penn State. The Penn State defense has been dominant of late, and they are giving up just 10.0 points per game this season. The Nittany Lions have 28 sacks as a team this season, and they will bring the heat against Lewerke and the Spartans offense. Penn State did give up 21 points a week ago to Michigan, but the Wolverines are a much more explosive team than Michigan State. Quarterback Sean Clifford might be one of the most underrated players in all of college football. Clifford has thrown for 1,742 yards so far this season, and has thrown 16 touchdowns to just two interceptions. Running back Noah Cain leads the team with 329 rushing yards, but the Nittany Lions have a slew of running backs. Penn State has racked up 19 rushing touchdowns this season, and they will run the ball a ton against Michigan State. The Michigan State Spartans have been trending in the wrong direction of late, and now they will face a top-10 team. The Spartans just simply don’t have the type of offense to compete against the top teams in this conference, and look to be headed to their third straight loss. Penn State has defeated top-25 opponents in back-to-back weeks, and this game should be a much easier test for them. The Nittany Lions are loaded on both sides of the ball, and they will dominate this game. Bet the Penn State Nittany Lions -5.5 over the Michigan State Spartans in this Big Ten showdown.
