Why Colin Kaepernick will NOT play in the NFL this season!
I really do hate writing anything about Colin Kaepernick because for the most part he isn't a 'sports' story. He has become something that is not part of the 'game' but is playing a 'game' with us. I believe that he's aware that he can't perform on the playing field at the level of NFL stars. Much like Johnny Manziel who knew in his heart that he was a hoax and would rather have the public believe his issue was alcohol and not the talent gap between him and success on the field and he used it as an out. Kaepernick is doing the same thing with his antics! It's the way out! He knows he can't compete.
Let us look at Colin on the field...career numbers! People kick around various reasons why Colin Kaepernick may or may not play in the NFL this season the least of which is he's 32 years old and hasn't played in four years. He already knows why he will or he won't play. Okay, folks I'm going to start by giving you my evaluation of Colin Kaepernick as an NFL football player and keep all the 'off-field' and before game antics aside. Let's start with his on the field performance. To be completely objective I have to go back to the first time a saw Colin Kaepernick playing ball. For you to truly appreciate what I have to say about him and about what I saw then and see now I must revert back to first time saw him play. He was playing baseball for the U. of Nevada in the spring and I noticed his size 6'5” and saw a perfect body build of an athlete as he took the mound for the Wolf Pack in a WAC baseball game. He had 92 MPH fast ball with decent control and had a long arm pitchers motion. In high school he was 15-6 with a 1.38 ERA and 179 strikeouts in 147 innings with just 67 walks as opponents hit .167 against him, but he was determined to play football. He was big, strong and could bring it. He had this long arm delivery much as a right-fielder and I actually thought he had a shot at playing baseball. Then the leaves started turning colors he took to the gridiron and was quarterbacking the Wolf Pack and doing a great job and drawing a lot of attention. As a QB he had a rifle for an arm that really wasn't all that accurate and he had no touch, none. A quarterback has to have a 'feel' for the game, an instinct as to when to call an audible or when the ally-oop the ball to a receiver. I never saw any feel' out of his game. If the called passing play wasn't open immediately he'd take off and run with the ball and on that level he's a hero. He was named WAC Offensive Player of the Year twice. His NFL career has spanned six years of getting on to the field and he only completed two full seasons as a starter. His QB ratings of 65.7 and 60.9 were his best and his final season he started 11 games and was 1-10 with 49.5 QB rating. His NFL career record is currently 28-30 with a 59.2 completion percentage. Getting back to his glory season 2013 when San Francisco 12-4 went to the Super Bowl losing to Baltimore. The Niners led the NFL in rushing averaging 6.2 yards per attempt running for 3,300 yards while allowing a league low 1507 rushing yards. They allowing an average of 3.7 per attempt both ranking the Niners number one in the NFL. His second season as a starter Kaepernick led SF to a 8-8 record. Defenses had now adjusted to his style of taking off and they were forcing him to be a more traditional NFL QB and play out of the pocket. This of course he was although they averaged 5.2 per rush and Colin had more passing yards 3,063 it wasn't enough as the NFL leader had over 5,000 yards passing. One category where Kaepernick had outstanding results was his TD to INT ratio of 72/30 and that reflects on a team that is a heavy threat to run the ball close to the goal line.It was said that Donovan McNabb was just an average quarterback and I agreed with that and this guy doesn't come close to McNabb. Sorry Donavan for bringing you into this! McNabb's highest QB ranking was 18th and his QB rating were a high is as a starter is 90.7 and a 56% completion record.
The NFL has dealt with the 'distraction' problem with Kaepernick by deciding to play the 'Black National Anthem' before the 'White National Anthem' 'er the Star Spangled Banner' prior to the Opening Game. Seems like an obvious appeasement to me. This is an ode to a race, which in itself racists not a country. So, the act or non-act of signing Kaepernick is definitely an 'on the field decision' unless of course the cave once again to financial pressure (Nike).
Did he really get blacked balled and to what extent or was it who really wanted him with or without the baggage. But, obviously the 'side show' was too distracting and cause diversions among teammates. As I understand it, in 2016 Kaeparnick was offered contracts twice (by a pair of NFL clubs) but insisted he be assured that he be named the starter at quarterback. Kaepernick is afraid to compete and fail which he most likely would do. He doesn't want to play! He could sign by an owner if a team is down to nothing as injuries take their toll at QB and they desperately need help and if his organization sees a political opportunity to further his objective.
