For our college football system of the week, we investigated situations regarding rest. Typically, teams have a Saturday game, six days off, and another Saturday game. In some cases, however, a team will have more or even less than six days rest between games. Teams playing mid-week instead of Saturday gives the team additional days off between games. The situation we have isolated for this week looks at teams with additional rest between contests. In this particular case, it is seven or more days between games and the effect has been consistent dating back to 1984. SYSTEM: Play ON a conference home team with seven or more days rest off a conference home SU loss as a favorite of nine or more points. The system has a record of 14-1 SU winning by an average of 29.9 points per game and 15-0 ATS covering the spread by an average of 16.6 points per game since 1984. Our system was last active in 2009 when USC coming off a loss to Stanford 55 to 21 as an eleven-point favorite hosted UCLA the following week with extended rest and defeated the Bruins 28 to 7 as a thirteen point home favorite. In 2008 South Florida was coming off a loss to Pittsburgh losing 26 to 21 as a thirteen-point favorite then hosted Syracuse with extended rest and defeated the Orange 45 to 13 as a twenty-four point home favorite. The system produced one active date in 2007 with Southern Mississippi coming off a loss to Rice 31 to 29 as a twenty-point favorite and hosted SMU the following week with rest defeating the Mustangs 28 to 7 as a ten-point home favorite. The Miami Hurricanes hosted ACC rival Virginia Cavaliers back on Thursday October 27 in Miami. Miami came into the game as a 13.5-point home favorite and lost 28 to 21 to the Cavaliers. Miami has suffered from inconsistency this season with wins over such programs as Ohio State, North Carolina and Georgia Tech while losing to Maryland and Virginia. Based on their previous performance we expect the Hurricanes to bounce back here against Duke on Saturday. Duke enters Saturday’s battle with Miami having lost back-to-back games in disappointing fashion. Two weeks ago, Duke hosted Wake Forest, lost 24 to 23 as a three-point home underdog and last week they hosted Virginia Tech, and lost 14 to 10 as a fifteen-point home underdog. Duke must now travel south to face a Hurricanes squad that is coming off an ugly nationally televised loss their last time out and a vacation to think it over. Add to that the Canes vacation was not provided by Shatner and the Big Deal so you can rest assured they are anxious to hit the field and erase that memory. With all the system parameters met, this week’s Cajun Sports NCAA Football System of the Week qualifies the Miami Hurricanes over the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday. This week’s Play ON team is the Miami Hurricanes to end their vacation nightmare.
