It’s a rare second straight Thursday night game for struggling Cal this week
when the Bears look to end a two-game losing streak when they host Southern Cal
in the ESPN national TV matchup. USC opened as a 3-point favorite on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.
California was blitzed last Thursday by Oregon, 43-15. Actually, the Bears
played well for a half, leading the Ducks 15-14 before the wheels fell off. Cal
lost top cornerback Marc Anthony to a shoulder injury in that
game and his status for Thursday is iffy. If Anthony is unable to play against
the Trojans at AT&T Park (home of the San Francisco Giants), freshman
Stefan McClure will get the call. Probably not a good thing
when going against USC WR Robert Woods, who is leading the
nation in receptions with 55 for 747 yards, a 13.6-yard average. The Trojans, who are ineligible again this season for postseason play, enter
off a 48-41 win over Arizona on Oct. 1 that helped get Wildcats coach
Mark Stoops fired. Matt Barkley passed for a
school-record 468 yards and four touchdowns, and Woods made 14 catches for 255
yards and two scores. Woods fell 5 yards short of R. Jay Soward's
260-yard school record when Arizona held him to one catch for 2 yards
in the fourth quarter.USC put up 582 yards of offense. This series has been rather lopsided, with USC having won seven in a row over
Cal. And the Bears offense has done nothing in recent years vs. USC. In 2008,
the Trojans won 17-3, in 2009 it was 30-3 and last year USC led 42-0 at halftime
before pulling away with a 48-14 win. Get the best NCAA football odds and props at the Web’s gaming leader
