It’s another early start for college football this week as Sun Belt Conference
preseason favorites Troy and Florida International face off in an ESPN2 national
television game. FIU has opened as a 6-point favorite on Bodog’s NCAA football
odds with live betting available.
Both clubs have been a disappointment thus far at 1-2 in Sun Belt play – two
games behind conference-leading Arkansas State and are just playing for bowl
eligibility at this point. FIU (4-3) actually played Arkansas State last
Tuesday, losing 34-16 despite leading 16-13 at one point. With his touchdown
reception in the third quarter, Golden Panthers star WR T.Y. Hilton
tied the Sun Belt record with 22 career TD catches. FIU was the
co-conference champion of the Sun Belt last year. For the season, the Panthers
have outscored the opposition 62-29 in the opening period. However, FIU has had
troubles in the fourth quarter, being outscored 61-27. Troy (2-4) enters off a 38-10 loss against Louisiana-Monroe, the Trojans’
second defeat in a row. Troy had only 126 total yards of offense in that one and
a net of minus-14 rushing yards. The Trojans have never lost three Sun Belt
games in a row. And under head coach Larry Blakeney's tenure,
Troy has never lost to FIU in Miami. Last year, however, at Troy, FIU won 52-35
for its first win against the Trojans. FIU had 448 rushing yards in that one,
setting a school record. Hilton had two catches for 75 yards but also rushed six
times for 158 yards and two scores. The road team has covered in five of the past six meetings between these two
schools. Get your NCAA football odds at Bodog: Home of experiencing the
rush.
