Neither Florida nor defending national champion Auburn can afford another conference loss if either hopes to reach the SEC Championship Game in December. The two face off Saturday evening in Alabama, with the Gators opening as 2-point road favorites on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.

The Gators (4-2, 2-2) need a win to stay within a game of SEC East co-leaders South Carolina and Georgia, with both favored to win their games Saturday. Florida has been outclassed the past two weeks by the nation’s top two teams, Alabama and LSU, by a combined margin of 79-21.

UF starting QB John Brantley was knocked out of the Alabama loss with an injury and missed last week’s setback at LSU. True freshman Jacoby Brissett started and was 8-for-14 for 94 yards with one TD and two picks. It was thought fellow true freshman Jeff Driskel was start, but he was ruled out with his own injury on game day. How much and whether Driskel plays this week depends on the health of that injured ankle.

UF needs to focus on two things for sure this week: penalties and rush defense. The Gators are No. 119 out of 120 I-A schools in penalties with 55 penalties for 425 yards — 70.83 per game. And Florida has allowed 464 rushing yards in the past two games, which might result in personnel changes this week.

Meanwhile, Auburn (4-2, 2-1) will stick with Barrett Trotter as its starting QB. Trotter has been increasingly splitting time with more mobile freshman Kiehl Frazier the past few games. Trotter was just 6-of-19 passing for 81 yards with an interception in the Tigers' 38-14 loss at Arkansas last week. Frazier will still see some snaps but he's primarily run out of the Wildcat formation. He has 26 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown. Frazier just 2-for-5 for 18 yards and two picks as a passer. Leading Auburn WR Emory Blake likely will be a game-time decision with a lower leg injury.
