The Texas Longhorns will hit the road for a Saturday matchup with the in-state rival Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Longhorns are coming off a big-time and emotionally charged win at home over the Kansas Jayhawks on Tuesday evening and will look to keep the momentum going. Texas was able to rebound after a tough loss to West Virginia to take the Jayhawks down.

The Red Raiders are currently riding a downward spiral after losing three consecutive Big 12 games, albeit against some of the highest levels of competition. Texas Tech just hasn't been able to get over the hump in its last three games, falling to West Virginia, Kansas, and Oklahoma State by a total of 22 points.

There were some questions regarding the Longhorns' chemistry after a sideline altercation between Courtney Ramey and Andrew Jones occurred during the team's loss to West Virginia. At the time of the exchange, Shaka Smart's group was leading the Mountaineers by double digits before completely collapsing.

The Longhorns put those concerns to rest (at least temporarily) during Tuesday's game against the Jayhawks as Texas displayed tremendous ball movement and chemistry in the victory.

Texas had five players in double digits and held the Jayhawks to a commendable 0.91 points per possession. The Longhorns doubled up the Jayhawks at the line, 24-12, which made up for their 5-of-26 shooting from behind the arc.

The Longhorns are just 7-12 against the spread on the season and 5-8 against the spread after a victory. On the road, they are 2-2 against the number and are outperforming the spread by an average of 3.2 points per game. They have been a fade this season on many premium picks.

Texas Tech Preview

Texas Tech remains a solid team despite its recent string of losses. Mac McClung has continued to play well over the streak while Kyler Edwards has struggled mightily of late. The 6-4 junior is shooting just 6-of-15 from the floor over his last three games and has been to the line just five times over that span. Will they be a factor in March Madness 2021?

The Red Raiders have not been their typical defensive selves during the streak either, allowing each of their last three opponents to average at least 0.99 points per possession. On the season, the Red Raiders are a top 30 team in adjusted defensive efficiency.

Chris Beard's group has been bad against the spread all season at just 7-15 against the number. At home, the Red Raiders are just 4-8 against the spread. As the underdog, they are underperforming the spread by an average of 1.7 points per game.

Despite the trends, Texas Tech is the correct pick here. Texas is coming off an emotional overtime win at home against its rival, and Texas Tech is in desperate need of a win.

Expect Beard to get his troops riled up before the game and for the Red Raiders to come out amped up at home.
