Texas and Oklahoma renew the Red River Rivalry, one of college football’s most heated rivalries, on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl with few giving the Longhorns much of a chance. The Sooners opened as 10.5-point favorites on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.

No. 11 Texas (4-0, 1-0) Big 12 has looked like a different team since benching starting QB Garrett Gilbert – who announced this week he would transfer (he's out for the year injured) – for the duo of Case McCoy and David Ash. Those two led a comeback victory against BYU and since then the Horns haven’t been challenged in blowout road wins over UCLA and Iowa State. McCoy had been putting up the better numbers and playing more, but Ash last week was 7-for-12 for 145 yards and two TDs against the Cyclones. Still, McCoy is expected to start again.

The Longhorns defense, which is No. 12 in the nation in points allowed at 14.8 per game, certainly will get its biggest test so far against an OU team that is still No. 1 in the coaches’ poll (No. 3 in the AP poll). Oklahoma comes off a 62-6 pasting of Ball State behind five touchdown passes and 426 yards from Heisman candidate Landry Jones. Ryan Broyles had four catches for 109 yards and two scores. He needs 13 catches to break the NCAA record of 316 career catches set by Purdue’s Taylor Stubblefield. OU is No. 5 in the nation in passing (377.8 ypg) and No. 11 in scoring (42.5 ppg).

Last year, Oklahoma won 28-20, with Jones throwing for 236 yards and two scores. Broyles was held to a season-low 36 yards on five catches. OU was the higher-ranked team last year and the higher-ranked team has won 10 of the past 11 meetings in this series. Also, the team with the most rushing yards has left the Cotton Bowl victorious 13 straight times in the series.
