Thanks to a shocking shootout loss to Baylor in its first game, TCU, which finished last year unbeaten and at No. 2 in the country, slipped from No. 13 in the polls to No. 25 entering Week 2. So any BCS bowl hopes are likely on life support. And you can pull the plug on those hopes if the Frogs lose their Mountain West Conference opener at Air Force on Saturday. TCU is a 2.5-point favorite on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.

It was stunning to see what Baylor did to what was the nation’s top-ranked defense last season. Led by Robert Griffin III, the Bears won 50-48 – last year TCU beat that same team 45-10. TCU allowed only 229 yards per game last season, and the most allowed in the regular season was 361 by SMU. The Bears had 360 at halftime, when they led 34-23, and finished with 564.

The Frogs allowed 54 points and seven touchdowns in five road games last season. Last Friday, it was 50 points and seven touchdowns. It was the most yards and points allowed by the Horned Frogs since Sept. 24, 2005. The one bright spot was the play of QB Casey Pachall, who threw for 259 yards and four touchdowns in his first career start.

Air Force, meanwhile, always gives teams trouble with its option offense. The Falcons opened their season with a 37-20 victory over South Dakota. The Falcons weren’t sharp as they fumbled four times, committed three turnovers and couldn't put away the Coyotes after going ahead by 30 points on their first drive after halftime. Air Force rushed for 391 yards in the game (most in the nation in Week 1) and passed for only 96 – a typical ratio for this team.

TCU has won 17 straight Mountain West games but seems to struggle in Colorado Springs. The Horned Frogs won the last meeting there by just three points in 2009 and lost in overtime in 2007. TCU did dominate Air Force last year in Fort Worth, 38-7.
