Former Mountain West Conference foes Brigham Young and TCU face off in this
week’s Friday ESPN national television game, with the Horned Frogs opening as
13-point favorites on Bodog’s NCAA football odds. This game is being held at
Cowboys Stadium outside Dallas so it’s technically a neutral-site game. The Cougars have won five games in a row and seem to have found themselves
under new starting QB Riley Nelson. In an amazing stat, the
Cougars have not had a single three-and-out since Nelson took over for former
starter Jake Heaps more than three games ago, the third quarter
of BYU’s 27-24 win over Utah State. The team has punted just twice after
possessions started by Nelson. In Saturday’s 56-3 win over Idaho State, Nelson
was 11-for-17 for 215 yards, three TDs and no picks. He has thrown at least two
TDs in four straight games. The Cougars (6-2) have totaled more than 200 rushing yards and 200 passing
yards in each of their past four games. They are looking for the first six-game
winning streak since 2007-08. TCU (5-2) has been uncharacteristically shaky on defense at times this year
but has won two straight since an overtime loss to SMU. The Frogs blitzed New
Mexico 69-0 on Saturday. TCU held New Mexico to 85 total yards and five first
downs while setting a school record for points. Casey Pachall
was an efficient 13-for-17 for 175 yards and two scores. BYU’s first trip to Cowboys Stadium in 2009 saw the Cougars knock off No. 3
Oklahoma, 14-13, in the first collegiate football game played in the stadium.
That was the game in which Sooners QB Sam Bradford was knocked
out injured and barely played the rest of that season a year after winning the
Heisman. This is the 11th meeting between the schools, with the series knotted at 5-5.
Last year at TCU, the Frogs held the Cougars offense to just 147 total yards,
including just 14 in the first half, in a 31-3 victory. Get your NCAA football odds and NCAA football team props at Bodog: Home of experiencing the
