One of the most intriguing Week 1
matchups in the NFL certainly is in St. Louis, where a Rams franchise that
is clearly on the rise hosts the “offseason champion” Philadelphia Eagles.
Philly opened as a 5.5-point favorite on Bodog’s NFL odds. The Eagles were stunningly able to land more than a handful of Pro Bowlers this offseason, trading backup QB Kevin Kolb for former Pro Bowl cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and also singing cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, the top free agent at any position on the market, defensive end Jason Babin, defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins, receiver Steve Smith (who won’t be ready for this game off an injury),
running back Ronnie Brown and quarterback Vince Young to back up Michael Vick. And the team took care of its own too, giving Vick a new $100 million contract after he finished as the NFL’s MVP runner-up last season. Vick, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy and Brent Celek should give the Eagles one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses. The Rams finished last season at 7-9, which was more wins than the team had
in the previous three seasons combined. The catalyst was QB Sam
Bradford, the 2009 No. 1 overall pick who more than lived up to
expectations by winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. Bradford set
the rookie records for completions and passing attempts in 2010. His best
performances came in a 36-33 win over Denver, when he had three TD passes and a
season-best 308 yards through the air, and in a 20-10 win over Carolina that
featured 25-of-32 passing and two touchdowns. He now will work under new offensive coordinator Josh
McDaniels, the former Broncos head coach. RB Steven Jackson
comes off sixth consecutive 1,000-yard season. If there’s one glaring
offensive hole it’s that the team still lacks at true No. 1 receiver. Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo was a Jim Johnson
protégé in Philadelphia before taking over the New York Giants defense,
a job that eventually catapulted him to Rams head coach in 2009. St. Louis and
Philly haven’t met since a 38-3 Eagles win in 2008. Get the best NFL game props all season at the Web’s gaming
