The South Carolina Gamecocks begin life without star running back
Marcus Lattimore tonight when they host a sliding Tennessee
team that will be giving freshman quarterback Justin Worley the
first start of his collegiate career. USC opened as a 4-point road favorite on
Bodog’s NCAA football odds. The Vols (3-4, 0-4 SEC) have lost three games in a row and have managed only
25 total points in those games. That streak started against Georgia when
starting QB Tyler Bray broke his hand in that game. He was
replaced by former starter Matt Simms. Though he led the Vols
on their lone touchdown drive against the Bulldogs, Simms was a combined 14 of
37 for 186 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions in starts against No. 1
LSU and No. 2 Alabama. Last week against the Tide, Tennessee managed only 155 total yards and six
first downs in a 37-6 loss. Simms was an ugly 8-for-17 for 58 yards with an
interception. Worley got his first action in that game but didn’t attempt a
pass. He will face a South Carolina defense that is tops in the nation. The
Gamecocks are allowing opponents an average 133.7 yards passing and have
intercepted 14 passes and recorded 15 sacks. Ironically, Worley is from South
Carolina but wasn’t heavily recruited by USC. The Gamecocks (6-1, 4-1), who are tied with Georgia atop the SEC East,
haven’t played since Oct. 15 when they beat Mississippi State 14-12 but lost
Lattimore for the season to a knee injury. True freshman Brandon Wilds
will step in as the Gamecocks' new starter. He has just 13 carries for
75 yards on the season. USC also may use WR Bruce Ellington
more often as the quarterback in the Wildcat package with Lattimore
out. This will be the first time that UT will play a Top-15 team for the third
week in a row since 1991. The home team has won four consecutive games in this
series. Tennessee is 14-1 all-time vs. South Carolina in Knoxville. The Vols are
4-1 ATS in the past five meetings overall. Get your NCAA football odds and NCAA football team props at Bodog: Home of experiencing the
