The 6-6 Iowa State Cyclones were barely bowl eligible this season, but they'll be gunning for a postseason win nonetheless on Friday afternoon as they take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.

Iowa State won its first three games of the season over Northern Iowa, Iowa, and Connecticut, but once they got into Big 12 conference play they proceeded to lose six of their next nine contests.
 
However, the Cyclones did manage to beat both then-No. 19 Texas Tech and then-No. 2 Oklahoma State (along with Kansas) to get into the bowl picture and earn this week's trip to New York.
 
Iowa State's last game came on December 3 on the road against Kansas State, and they lost 30-23. Cyclones QB Jared Barnett went 15 of 27 for 153 yards passing with one touchdown and one interception in that defeat.
 
Jeff Woody rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries against the Wildcats.
 
The Cyclones paid off at 7-5 against the spread and 5-7 on the OVER/UNDER this season, while Rutgers was 8-4 against the spread and 3-9 on the OVER/UNDER as they posted an 8-4 straight-up record.
 
Rutgers is coming off a 40-22 loss on the road against Connecticut in which starting QB Chas Dodd was pulled after going 11 of 22 for 141 yards passing with no touchdowns and one interception. Gary Nova tossed a pair of touchdown strikes in relief that day.
 
Brandon Coleman had six catches for 223 yards with two touchdowns in that defeat.
