Is 6-6 UCLA the worst conference finalist in the history of the major conference title games? The Bruins might be and they would appear to have zero chance on Friday night’s inaugural Pac-12 Championship Game at Oregon, with the Ducks as 31.5-point favorites on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.

For sure it’s the final game on the sideline for Bruins head coach Rick Neuheisel. He was fired earlier this week, which is really no shock considering that UCLA was clubbed by crosstown rival USC last Saturday, 50-0. That was the worst conference loss in school history and showed just how far away the Bruins still are from the Trojans. The only reason UCLA is in the title game is because USC is ineligible and the Pac-12 South Division is a sorry bunch outside of Southern Cal. Neuheisel is 21-28 in his UCLA coaching career and had gotten the team to only one bowl in the previous three seasons. Look for the school to target Boise State’s Chris Petersen and Houston’s Kevin Sumlin to replace Neuheisel.

No. 9 Oregon (10-2) clinched the Pac-12 North with last week’s 49-21 win in the Civil War against Oregon State. Ducks QB Darron Thomas led Oregon's explosive attack with 305 yards passing and four TDs. Thomas needs only three TD passes to set the school record, currently at 62 by Danny O’Neil from 1991-94. Star RB LaMichael James left the Oregon State game with an injured elbow early in the fourth quarter but is fine.

The winner here heads to the Rose Bowl. An Oregon loss likely knocks the Ducks out of any BCS bowl contention. UCLA technically wouldn’t be bowl eligible with a loss but already has been told by the NCAA it would be allowed to play in a bowl game; Neuheisel won’t coach that. Offensive coordinator Mike Johnson will take over as interim head coach after this game.

Oregon thrashed UCLA in Eugene last year, 60-13, in the Ducks’ first-ever game as the nation’s No. 1 team. It was Oregon’s third straight win in the series as Thomas threw for 308 yards and three scores. UCLA is 0-4 ATS in past four road games this season. But the Ducks are 0-2-2 ATS in their past four at home.
