It’s hard to imagine that Oregon would look past a very good Washington team
tonight, but you can bet that many of the Ducks players already are glancing to
next weekend and the showdown with unbeaten Stanford for a likely spot in the
Pac-12 Championship Game. The Ducks opened as 14.5-point favorites on Bodog’s
NCAA football odds. There is now quarterback controversy for No. 6 Oregon (7-1, 5-0 Pac-12) even
though the Ducks pulled starter Darron Thomas in last week’s
sloppy 43-28 win over Washington State. Thomas was pulled at halftime vs. WSU
after going 8-of-13 for 153 yards and a touchdown, with two interceptions on
catchable balls muffed by receivers. Redshirt freshman Bryan Bennett
took over with just a 15-10 lead and was 4-for-7 for 88 yards with two
scores. He led three TD drives overall, two more than Thomas. Oregon scored at
least 41 points for the seventh game in a row. Washington (6-2, 4-1) still has an outside shot at winning the Pac-12 North.
The Huskies bounced back from a shellacking by Stanford to beat Arizona last
weekend, 42-31. Star running back Chris Polk scored five
touchdowns and became the first player in Washington history with 100 yards
rushing (34 carries for 144 yards) and receiving (four catches, 100 yards) in a
game as the Huskies rallied. But that Washington defense remains a big question
mark. Arizona carved up Washington's struggling defense for 424 total yards a
week after the Huskies surrendered 615 yards to Stanford. UW is No. 103 in the
nation in allowing 33.4 points per game. The Huskies are unbeaten at home this year and have covered four in a row
there. However, Oregon has covered in six of the past seven meetings. Last year
the Ducks won 53-16 in Eugene. Thomas had 332 total yards and three scores,
while LaMichael James, who returned from injury last week, had
121 yards and three scores. The Ducks have won seven straight over Washington —
all by 20 or more points. Bet on college football at Bodog: HOME OF INTENSE COLLEGE
