With all due respect to the season opener between Top-5 teams Oregon and LSU,
tonight’s game between No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 5 Florida State is the best game
on the schedule in the early season. The Sooners have opened as 3-point
favorites on Bodog’s NCAA football odds. The Sooners have had two weeks to prepare for this showdown as they haven’t played since thumping Tulsa 47-14 on Sept. 3. Heisman candidate Landry Jones went 35 for 47 for 375 yards and WR Ryan Broyles came up just shy of his own school receptions record with 14 for 158 yards. Dominique Whaley ran for 131 yards and four TDs as the Sooners extended the nation's longest home winning streak to 37. Whaley is a walk-on who formerly played at Langston University
of the NAIA. Florida State (2-0) has opened with easy wins over cupcakes Louisiana-Monroe
and Charleston Southern. The Noles outscored those two by a cool 96-10. Against
Charleston Southern last Saturday, the Noles had 647 yards offense while holding
Charleston Southern to three first downs and 84 yards. The Seminoles had a 371-8
yardage advantage in the first half. QB EJ Manuel threw for a
career-best 329 yards and four touchdowns. These two met last year and the Sooners flat-out embarrassed FSU in a 47-17
win in Norman. Jones threw for 380 yards and four touchdowns in that one. His
321 yards by halftime were the second-most in a half in Oklahoma history.
Broyles had 12 catches for 125 yards and a score. It was FSU’s third-worst loss
since 1991 – but these Noles are much better and of course at home. This marks
OU’s first-ever trip to Tallahassee. Both teams should be favored the rest of
the way so the winner could well be playing in the BCS title game come
January. Get the best NCAA odds and props at the Web’s gaming leader!
