When Ohio State played Miami last year, it was a much-hyped game between potential national title contenders. This year? It’s two programs who are likely staring at serious NCAA sanctions after a year that both would like to forget. The Hurricanes opened as 3-point favorites on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.

Ohio State is pretty fortunate to be entering this one at 2-0. The Buckeyes were outplayed last week by MAC team Toledo but managed to escape with a 27-22 home win – OSU has never lost to a MAC team. The Rockets were trying to become the first team from the state to defeat the Buckeyes since 1921. Toledo outgained the Buckeyes but threw one interception, had 102 yards in penalties, missed a 45-yard field goal, mishandled the hold on a 50-yard field-goal attempt, and gave up a special-teams touchdown.

OSU played without seven suspended players and four of those remain out: running back Dan Herron, receiver DeVier Posey, defensive end Solomon Thomas and left tackle Mike Adams are out because of the memorabilia-for-tattoos scandal. But three others who were suspended for the first two games for receiving improper benefits — cornerbacks Travis Howard and Corey Brown and running back Jordan Hall — will be allowed to play against the Hurricanes.

Miami fell to Maryland 32-24 on Labor Day night without several suspended players. While UM will have back five starters after a one-game suspension, it'll still be without two — safety Ray-Ray Armstrong and defensive end Olivier Vernon. Miami coach Al Golden has decided to start Jacory Harris at QB after he missed the first game due to suspension. Harris would have beaten out Stephen Morris for the job in camp, Golden said.

Last year in Columbus, OSU won 36-24. Herron and Posey combined for 171 yards rushing and receiving for the Buckeyes. Harris was 22-for-39 for 232 yards and a touchdown but also four interceptions.  Miami has lost three straight games against Big Ten teams.
