The University of Notre Dame says it wants to stay independent in football,
but the ACC has been mentioned as a possible landing spot should the Irish be
forced into a conference a full sports member. Well, we will find out perhaps
how the Fighting Irish would fit into the ACC as they begin a three-game stretch
vs. those schools Saturday at Wake Forest. The Irish are 14-point favorites on
Bodog’s NCAA football odds. Notre Dame (5-3) would get officially bowl eligible with a win. The Irish
bounced back from a tough loss to USC with an easy 56-14 victory over Navy last
Saturday. Notre Dame rushed for seven touchdowns, most in 19 years, while
limiting Navy to a season-low 229 yards of total offense. Star WR
Michael Floyd also had 121 yards receiving and two TDs, one of
them rushing. Wake Forest (5-3, 4-2 ACC) still has a shot at the ACC Atlantic Division
title, although of course this game has no bearing on that. But the Deacons have
been blown out in two of their past three games and their only win in that
stretch was a 1-pointer at last-place Duke. Wake had five turnovers in last
week’s 49-24 loss to North Carolina — three on interceptions thrown by
Tanner Price – after committing just five all season coming
into that game. This is the first meeting ever between these schools. The Demon Deacons are
the 141st different opponent in Notre Dame football history. The Irish own an
all-time record of 117-20-3 (.846) when facing an opponent for the first time.
But they lost their last one, coming in the season opener vs. South Florida. Wake is just 1-7 ATS in its past eight vs. teams with a winning record. Notre
Dame is 7-3 ATS in its past 10 road games. Bet on college football at Bodog: HOME OF INTENSE COLLEGE
