It’s the second straight Tuesday night game for Northern Illinois this week,
and if this week’s matchup at Bowling Green is anything like last week’s game
against Toledo, it’s must-see TV. The Huskies have opened as 5.5-point favorites
on Bodog’s NCAA football odds. Last Tuesday at Toledo, NIU (6-3, 4-1 MAC) won 63-60 at Toledo to earn a key
tiebreaker advantage over the Rockets, with both now tied for the West Division
lead in the Mid-American Conference. NIU quarterback Chandler Harnish
was sensational against Toledo, throwing for 265 yards and six
touchdowns and rushing for 133 more yards. The Huskies and Rockets combined for
1,121 yards of offense and a MAC-record 17 touchdowns in the second-highest
scoring game in league history (most points in a non-overtime game). Bowling Green (4-5, 2-3) has dropped four of five, with its last outing a
27-15 loss at Kent State on Oct. 29 despite 400 yards passing by QB Matt
Schilz. BGSU won’t have running back Jordan Hopgood
for this one because of a knee injury that has hampered him all season.
He has 60 carries for 213 yards and four touchdowns and is the guy BGSU often
goes to in short-yardage and goal-line situations. BGSU leads the all-time series 10-6 and is 7-1 at home vs. Northern Illinois.
However, the Huskies have won three of the past four meetings overall – the
teams haven’t played since 2008. NIU is 2-1 in MAC road games so far this year
but is just 1-4 ATS in its past five as a road favorite. BSU has covered in less
than 33 percent of its past 30 home games. Bet on college football at Bodog: HOME OF INTENSE COLLEGE
RIVALRIES.
