While the National League’s final night of the regular season didn’t have
quite the drama of the American League, we still got to see an epic collapse in
the NL, with the Braves blowing an 8.5-game wild-card lead from early September
and a ninth-inning lead Wednesday night to get swept by the Philadelphia
Phillies. That allowed the St. Louis Cardinals, who breezed past Houston last
night, to gain the NL’s final playoff spot. And Milwaukee’s win over Pittsburgh allowed the Brewers to clinch the No. 2 seed in the NL and thus home-field advantage over NL West champ Arizona in that NLDS series. Both NLDS series begin on Saturday. Bet on them now at Bodog's MLB baseball odds. The Cardinals were one of the few teams to have a winning record over
Philadelphia this season, winning six of nine games. But the availability of
Cards outfielder Matt Holliday is in question for this series
after he sat out the final few games of the regular season with a hand injury.
Game 1 features Phils Cy Young candidate Roy Halladay against
either Edwin Jackson or Kyle Lohse. Halladay,
in his first playoff start last season, pitched a no-hitter against the Reds.
Halladay faced St. Louis twice this year, going 0-1 with a 3.21 ERA. Milwaukee, the NL Central champion which set a franchise record with 96 wins,
was 3-4 during the season against Arizona. The Snakes went from last to first in
the NL West this year. Both teams are nearly invincible at home, with Milwaukee
finishing with MLB’s best record at home and the Diamondbacks winning 21 of
their final 25 in the desert. Game 1 features Milwaukee’s Yovani Gallardo, who is 2-0 in
his last three starts, with double-digit strikeouts in all three of those games.
Gallardo is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA this season vs. Arizona. The Diamondbacks start
Ian Kennedy, one of two 20-game winners in the NL this season.
He made one start vs. the Brewers this year, shutting them out over seven
innings but getting a no-decision. Get the best MLB postseason odds and props at the Web’s gaming
