The division-rival Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins are in a
heated battle for both the Atlantic Division and first place in the Eastern
Conference. They’ll play for the sixth and final time on Tuesday in a key battle
on the NHL betting
board. Pittsburgh (45-23-8) has won consecutive games—including a win over Philly last week—and is 8-2-0 in its past 10 outings. The Pens topped Florida 2-1 on Sunday. The Penguins have been winning thanks to absolutely absurd play from
Marc-Andre Fleury. Fleury has just completed arguably the best
three-game stretch of his career. The netminder went 3-0-0 while allowing just
two goals—despite all three games going to overtime and a shootout. Fleury
stopped 77 of the 79 shots he faced and turned away nine of the 10 shots he
faced in the shootout. Now Pittsburgh has to find him some offensive support. The club has managed
just two regulation goals in the past three games, so it’s hard to find a
Penguin who isn’t completely ice cold right now. Alex Kovalev
and James Neal each have just one goal since being acquired by
the Penguins, but they’ve at least contributed in shootouts. Neal has won three
games in shootouts this week alone. The Flyers (45-20-10) are just 5-1-4 in their past 10 games. While it’s nice
to collect a point for overtime and shootout losses, the slump has still allowed
Pittsburgh to narrow the gap in the Atlantic Division. Philly lost 2-1 to the
Boston Bruins on Sunday. Philadelphia is struggling offensively. The Flyers committed a season-high 20
turnovers against Boston, compared to a season average of just eight per game.
Philly is trying too hard to make long, aggressive passes. That’s also giving
other teams chances to score, and the Flyers have allowed 30-plus shots in three
straight games. At least the club is getting improved play in net. Sergei
Bobrosky had struggled over the past few weeks, but the rookie and
backup Brian Boucher are back on track now. They combined to
allow just four goals on a .961 save percentage in their past three starts. Philly is 3-2 against the Penguins this season, but Pittsburgh won 2-1 when
they met last Thursday. Fleury made 19 saves in the victory. Get all your NHL odds at
