In the three games of the Eastern
Conference quarterfinal series between Original Six rivals Boston and
Montreal played so far, the home team has yet to win a game. If that happens
again tonight in Montreal, this series will return to Boston tied at 2. And the
Bruins have opened as slight favorites on Bodog’s NHL odds. The Habs were in control of the series, it seemed, heading home up 2-0 in the series. But Boston showed life in Game 3 with a 4-2 victory. Some Bruins fans were calling for the team to bench starting goalie Tim Thomas before Game 3 but he responded with 34 saves, including 14 in the final period. Interestingly, the Bruins, perhaps looking for some motivation, practiced on Tuesday and Wednesday in Lake Placid, N.Y., the site of Team USA’s miracle hockey win over the Soviet Union
in the 1980 Olympics. Habs goalie Carey Price wasn’t the same player in Game 3. He
made just 21 saves after stopping 65 of 66 in the Canadiens' two wins at the TD
Bank Garden and posting a shutout in last Thursday's series opening 2-0 win.
Montreal apparently is going to make one significant lineup change tonight.
Center Jeff Halpern has been in the lineup for only four games
since March 15 because of injuries. He has been practicing with the team but
head coach Jacques Martin decided to give him some extra
recovery time because the team was playing well. However after Game 3 Martin
apparently saw enough and Halpern is set to play tonight in place of
underachieving Benoit Pouliot. Halpern, who might play right
wing, is excellent at faceoffs, a stat the Bruins are winning 55.6 percent of
the time in this series. Neither team has been good on the power play in this series. Boston is
0-for-11 with the extra man while the Canadiens have only one goal in 11
power-play chances. Bet the best Bruins-Canadiens odds and props at Bodog!
