If the Lightning are to make it to the Stanley Cup final this year they're
going to have to settle on a goaltender and beat the Bruins in Game 6 of their
NHL playoff
betting series on Wednesday night. Tampa Bay went with backup goaltender Mike Smith between the pipes in a surprise move in Game 5 on Monday night, but that didn't stop them from losing 3-1 in Boston to fall into a 3-2 deficit in the best-of-seven series. Smith stopped 17 of 19 Boston shots in the contest, with the Bruins also
adding an empty-net marker to seal the victory. Tim Thomas made
33 saves for the Bruins in the win and was named the game's First Star. The Lightning took a 1-0 lead on Monday just a minute into the first period
on a Simon Gagne goal, but that was all the scoring they could
manage. Nathan Horton and Brad Marchand staked
Boston to the lead in the second period, and Rich Peverley
scored into the empty net. On the NHL
futures at Bodog the Bruins sat at +200 odds to win
the Stanley Cup after Monday's win, while the Lightning were at +900
odds. Tampa Bay forward Sean Bergenheim, who has nine goals in the
playoffs, left Game 5 in the first period with an undisclosed lower-body injury
and didn't return; he's currently questionable for Wednesday's game. Should the Lightning manage to win on Wednesday the two teams will head back
to Boston for a deciding Game 7 on Friday night. Puck drop for Game 6 is set for
8:00pm ET, with Tampa Bay the -120 favorite and the contest's total at 5.5
goals. Get all your NHL odds at
