Two Original Six teams battling for playoff positioning will collide in an NHL betting
matchup on Tuesday when the Montreal Canadiens host the Chicago Blackhawks. The Canadiens (42-30-7) are coming off a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils, but not all is well in Montreal. The club has lost four of its last six games, including an ugly three-game losing streak last week. That slump was punctuated with three straight shutouts. Montreal doesn’t have
a talented superstar up front to carry it through prolonged slumps, and it
showed last week. Brian Gionta might have been the worst of the
bunch, enduring a five-game scoreless streak. He finally broke out with a pair
of assists against New Jersey. The biggest concern, though, is Carey Price. The young
netminder has carried Montreal this season, and he’s crucial to any sort of
playoff run the Habs are intent on making. Price might be getting worn out,
however, and he’s been pulled from three of his last seven starts. Chicago (42-28-8) has lost three times in its past four games. The most
recent defeat came Sunday, a 2-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Like Montreal, the Blackhawks can’t put the puck in the net—and they actually
have some stars to lean on. Chicago has been shut out twice in the past three
games, and the scoring slump is largely tied to the absence of Patrick
Sharp. Sharp plays left wing on the top line with Patrick Kane
and Jonathan Toews, but he’s been out since March 20
with a knee injury. Toews has suffered the most, recording just a single point in his past five
games. Sharp, who leads Chicago with 34 goals, is needed back as soon as
possible—but he won’t dress Tuesday. Get all your NHL odds at
