Two of the lowest-profile teams in the NHL will hook up in the first round of
the playoffs, as the Anaheim Ducks host the Nashville Predators in an NHL betting that
may very well fly under the radar. Anaheim (47-30-5) is looking very, very dangerous. The Ducks have won three straight games, all against division rivals and playoff teams. The Ducks have some fantastic offensive punch, as five different players
scored 68 or more points. Corey Perry may have earned himself
the Hart Trophy with a wild season; Perry scored 50 goals and 98 points. He’s
absolutely on fire right now, having scored 19 goals and 30 points in his last
16 games. But while Anaheim can score, keeping the puck out of the net could be an
issue. The blue line is solid but unspectacular and, more importantly, there are
major questions in net. Jonas Hiller was an All-Star this year,
but he’s played just three times since the beginning of February. Ray
Emery looked like he was ready to take over the gig, but he’s missed
back-to-back games with a lower-body injury. That means Dan
Ellis could wind up being Anaheim’s starting playoff goalie—a
horrifying thought for Ducks fans. Nashville (44-27-11) is enjoying a pretty solid run entering the postseason,
having gone 7-2-1 in its past 10 games. Unlike the Ducks, the Predators are
brilliant at keeping their opponents in check. Shea Weber leads a blue line that’s among the NHL’s best.
All six defensemen can play, and they look even better thanks to their fantastic
goalie, Pekka Rinne. Rinne emerged as one of the league’s elite
this season, posting a 2.12 goals-against average, a .930 save percentage, and
six shutouts. He can steal a game—or a series. Unfortunately, the Predators are awful at the other end of the ice. Nashville
didn’t have a single player score more than 50 points, or a player with more
than 23 goals. Somehow, the Preds are going to have to generate more
offense. Anaheim and Nashville have split their last 10 games with each other. The
Predators controlled the series this year, though, by winning three out of the
four matchups. Get all your NHL odds at
