Few teams hate each other as much as the Boston Bruins and the Montreal
Canadiens. The division rivals will hook up on the NHL betting
board during the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The amount of bad blood between the teams this season alone is incredible. A Feb. 9 game that Boston won 8-6 was marred by over 180 minutes in penalties, but the rivalry hit a fever pitch in March when Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara steered Habs forward Max Pacioretty into a metal support on the glass. Pacioretty was concussed and suffered a broken vertebra. Montreal wound up winning the season series four games to two. Montreal (44-30-8) doesn’t have a ton of punch up front. Tomas
Plekanec led the team with just 57 points, so don’t expect the Habs to
be lighting the lamp particularly often. Their strength comes in goal, where
Carey Price has elevated his game to a new level. Price always had talent, but he finally seems to be putting it together in
his fourth NHL season. Price started 70 games this season, posting a 2.35
goals-against average, .923 save percentage, and eight shutouts. If Price
doesn’t play that well during the postseason, Montreal is going home early. But Boston (46-25-11) boasts a pretty good goalie of its own—Tim
Thomas. Thomas will likely win the Vezina Trophy after posting a 2.00
goals-against average and NHL-record .938 save percentage. He also notched nine
shutouts this season. Boston also has a little more scoring pop, though not much more. Four
different Bruins recorded 50-plus points, and four different players notched
20-plus goals. Milan Lucic enjoyed a fantastic breakout season,
racking up 30 goals, 62 points, and 121 penalty minutes. Get all your NHL odds at
