The San Diego Chargers managed to rally and beat the Minnesota
Vikings on Sunday, but that win was very costly. Kicker Nate Kaeding
is expected out for the year after tearing his ACL in the game, and
defensive end Luis Castillo also might be done after breaking
his tibia. Kaeding was hurt on the opening kickoff of Sunday’s 24-17 victory over the Vikings. He was attempting to tackle Percy Harvin as Harvin raced past en route to a 103-yard return. The team will sign a new kicker on Tuesday. Though punter Mike Scifres performed well in that role and converted a 40-yard field goal Sunday, Coach Norv Turner said he won't do so again this week. Castillo, meanwhile, suffered a fractured tibia in his left leg in the fourth
quarter. The Chargers may turn to Ogemdi Nwagbuo, who was cut last week, to replace Castillo. It was even worse for the Rams in their season-opening loss to the Eagles.
Starting QB Sam Bradford, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the
Year, RB Stephen Jackson and WR Danny Amendola
all left the game due to injury. Bradford was hurt on the
follow-through on a long pass completion midway through the fourth quarter with
the Rams trailing 31-13. X-rays were negative on his right index finger. Jackson strained a quad. He said he was hurt toward the end of his 47-yard
scoring run on the Rams' first offensive play. Amendola's injury was the worst,
with the receiver catching a pass over the middle and suffering what is likely a
significant arm injury – it’s being called a dislocated elbow. He was the team’s
leading receiver in 2010. The Rams are waiting for the results of Amendola’s MRI
before making a decision on putting him on IR, but even in a best-case scenario,
he’ll miss the bulk of the season. The Rams are at the Giants next Monday – bet on the game at the Web’s gaming
