All eyes will be on the quarterbacks tonight in Dallas as the Cowboys host the Denver Broncos as one of five games kicking off the 2011 NFL preseason. Dallas is a 3.5-point favorite with the total at 34.5 on Bodog’s NFL odds.

For Dallas, QB Tony Romo will see his first game action since breaking his collarbone in the Cowboys’ sixth game of last season. It’s likely that Romo and the rest of the Cowboys’ starters will play only the first two series of the game. This is the chance for all of the Cowboys to put last year’s 6-10 disaster behind them. Most people say the exhibition season doesn’t count. But it was a bit of foreshadowing last year for Dallas. Out of 13 preseason possessions for the first team in 2010, the Cowboys scored just one touchdown, turned the ball over three times, punted six times, gained 20 first downs and kicked two field goals. Things didn’t get much better in the regular season.

As for the Broncos, they have a QB controversy that really isn’t one. Kyle Orton has been named the starter, but the fans and front office seem to prefer Tim Tebow, who is currently No. 2. Orton was nearly traded to the Miami Dolphins but wouldn’t agree to a new deal with Miami. The players want Orton, who has been much better than Tebow in camp. So new Denver coach John Fox has little choice but to start him because otherwise he would lose the locker room. This game marks the debut of Fox after a nine-year run with the Carolina Panthers in which he guided that franchise to three playoff trips as well as a Super Bowl appearance in 2003. It’s also the first NFL game for Broncos No. 2 overall pick Von Miller, arguably college football’s best defensive player last year at Texas A&M.

Dallas was 3-2 last preseason, while Denver was 1-3.
