Maybe releasing David Garrard wasn't such a great idea after
all. The Jacksonville Jaguars will be looking to bounce back from an ugly loss
to the New York Jets over the weekend when they take on the Panthers in Carolina
on Sunday afternoon. The Jets blasted the Jags 32-3 at MetLife Stadium, with Jacksonville quarterback Luke McCown completing just six of 19 pass attempts for 59 yards with four interceptions before getting the hook in favour of rookie Blaine Gabbert. McCown's QB Rating for the contest? A mere 1.8. Gabbert was good on five of his six pass attempts in relief for 52 yards and could now be in line to take over starting duties. Maurice Jones-Drew ran for 88 yards on 18 carries for
Jacksonville, who were pegged as 9-point road underdogs on the NFL betting
lines at the Bodog Sportsbook for the game. The Jags' season had actually
started with a bit of promise, as they knocked off Tennessee 16-14 in Week
1. Picking up yards through the air hasn't been a problem for the Panthers so
far this season, although they sit at 0-2 after falling to Green Bay 30-23 at
home as a 10.5-point underdog on the NFL odds board
on Sunday afternoon. Panthers rookie QB Cam Newton came out firing again in Week
2, completing 28 of his 46 pass attempts for 432 yards with a touchdown strike
against the Packers. Newton also ran for 53 yards and a score on the day, but he
was picked off three times. Steve Smith had six catches for 156 yards for Carolina in
Week 2, and Jonathan Stewart had eight catches for 100 yards.
Stewart and DeAngelo Williams, however, combined for just 18 rushing yards. Kickoff for the Jaguars/Panthers matchup on Sunday afternoon is set for
1:00pm ET. Get all your NFL odds at
