Having picked up a loss in each of their last five games, the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers will try to stop that skid on Sunday afternoon when they host the
Carolina Panthers in an NFL betting matchup.
The Bucs, who won four of
their first five games of the season, have dropped consecutive outings to the
Bears, Saints, Texans, Packers, and Titans to sit at 4-7 both straight up and
against the spread in 2011.
Barring a miracle turnaround, then, the Bucs
are out of playoff contention in the conference, but they can at least avoid the
NFC South division basement this week by beating the 3-8 straight up (6-5
against the spread) Panthers in Tampa Bay.
The Bucs lost 23-17 in
Tennessee over the weekend, as Josh Freeman completed 18 of his
33 pass attempts for 199 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
LeGarrette Blount rushed for 103 yards on 20 carries in the
game, but fumbled twice.
The Panthers put an end to a three-game losing
streak in Week 11 – but they did it against the winless Colts in Indianapolis.
Carolina had previously racked up losses against Minnesota, Tennessee, and
Detroit.
Cam Newton went an efficient 20 of 27 for 208
yards passing in the Panthers' 27-19 win over the Colts, while also running for
53 yards and a score. DeAngelo Williams rushed for 69 yards and
two touchdowns on 15 carries for Carolina in that contest.
Tampa Bay won
both meetings with Carolina last season, covering the posted spread in both of
those games as well. The Panthers are 6-4 straight up and 5-5 against the spread
in their last 10 meetings with the Bucs dating back to
2006.
