An NFL odds matchup at the Bodog Sportsbook between the New
England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts is usually one of the biggest games
of the season. This year, though, it could end up being one of the ugliest
contests on the schedule.
The Patriots,
at 8-3 straight up and 7-4 against the spread, have won three straight games
heading into Sunday's home game versus the Colts, putting them atop the AFC East
standings and tying them for the top mark in the entire conference.
The
Colts, at 0-11 straight up and 2-9 against the spread, are the worst team in the
entire league in a season in which QB Peyton Manning has been
out with a neck injury.
And that disparity will push the odds for this
contest into the stratosphere as the Colts just look to avoid total
embarrassment when they play on the road against their rival.
New
England is coming off a 38-20 win in Philadelphia over the weekend in which
Tom Brady threw three touchdown passes and BenJarvus
Green-Ellis ran for a pair of scores. Brady had 361 passing yards in
that game, with no interceptions.
Wes Welker had eight
catches for 115 yards with two touchdowns in that win over the Eagles, while
Rob Gronkowski had the team's other TD reception on the
day.
The Colts fell 27-19 at home to Carolina on Sunday, with
Curtis Painter completing 15 of 29 pass attempts for 226 yards
with one touchdown strike and two interceptions. Donald Brown
rushed for 89 yards and a score in the losing cause for Indy.
The Pats
beat the Colts 31-28 at home last season as a 4.5-point favorite, but that close
result was with Manning – and not Painter – guiding the Indianapolis
offense.
