What do the New York Jets have to do to get a little more respect on the NFL betting lines? Despite beating the rival New England Patriots in the playoffs last season the Jets still aren't the favorites to win the AFC East division title in 2011.

The Jets topped Peyton Manning and the Colts 17-16 in the Wild Card Round of last year's playoffs, then bounced Tom Brady and the Patriots 28-21 in the second round before falling to the Steelers 24-19 in Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship Game.

New York will be looking to go one step farther in 2011, but they'll do it as underdogs on the NFL betting lines – at least when compared to the Pats. The Jets are at +185 to win the AFC East, 6/1 to win the AFC Championship, and  have 12/1 odds of winning the Super Bowl.

New England sits at -165 to win the AFC East, 5/2 to win the AFC Championship, and 11/2 to win the Super Bowl.

The Jets went 11-5 overall and 9-7 against the spread last season to end up three games back of New England in the division standings, with the oddsmakers at the Bodog Sportsbook pegging their wins OVER/UNDER for 2011 at 10.

To go OVER that number they'll be looking for quarterback Mark Sanchez to improve his game this season. Sanchez threw for 3,291 yards for the Jets last season with 17 touchdown strikes but was intercepted 13 times.

New York gave up the fewest points in the AFC East last season (304), and they tried to bolster that defense even more over the summer by signing Nnamdi Asomugha. The coveted CB went to the Eagles instead, but the Jets still have Darrelle Revis in the fold to keep opposing quarterbacks honest.

The Jets begin their season at home against the Dallas Cowboys in a featured matchup on Sunday Night Football this week.
