Can George Mason pull of a Cinderella run similar to what the Patriots did when reaching the Final Four in 2006? They would certainly make some believers on Sunday in Cleveland if they can beat Ohio State, the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and playing in essentially a home game. The Buckeyes have opened as 11-point favorites on Bodog’s NCAA Tournament odds.

GMU (27-6) beat Villanova 61-57 on Friday. Luke Hancock hit a 3-pointer with 21 seconds left to cap a comeback for the Patriots, who trailed by 10 at one point. Hancock led the way with 18 points. It was GMU’s first NCAA Tournament win since that 2006 run. And here’s an interesting fact: Four of the last six teams to defeat Villanova in the NCAA tournament have gone on to win the championship. A win Sunday would be GMU’s 28th of the year and would set a school record.

Ohio State (33-2) had little trouble with UT-San Antonio on Friday, winning 75-46 for its eighth straight victory. William Buford scored 18 points and star freshman Jared Sullinger added 11 and eight rebounds. Because the game was really never in doubt the OSU starters didn’t play heavy minutes. Ohio State built a 16-point halftime lead that stretched to 38 in the second half and was never threatened. OSU shot 56.9 percent from the field and made 12-of-24 from 3-point range. In four postseason games this year, including the Big Ten Tournament, the Buckeyes have a margin of victory of 13.3 ppg. Ohio State is shooting 46 percent from the field (99-216) and has outrebounded opponents by 9.3 boards a game.

OSU and GMU have faced off three times, all Buckeyes wins. But they haven’t played since 1996.

Madness would not be betting on the NCAA Tournament at Bodog!
