Off an unbeaten 2010 campaign and impressive Rose Bowl victory over
Wisconsin, Texas Christian opens the 2011 season, its final one in the
Mountain West, with a dangerous test on Friday night at Baylor. The 14th-ranked
Horned Frogs, who finished last season ranked No. 2 in the land, opened as
6-point favorites on Bodog’s NCAA football odds with the total at 56. The Frogs have been ranked in 42 consecutive AP polls since Oct. 15, 2008. It's the longest such streak in school history and fourth longest in the nation. TCU has to replace its winningest quarterback in Andy Dalton, who was part of 42 victories in his career and holds nearly every school passing record. That job will likely be held by Casey Pachall. As a freshman last season, Pachall saw limited action. His biggest moment came in the regular-season finale
at New Mexico. He replaced Dalton, who injured his shoulder, and was 4-of-6 for 54 yards and a touchdown. It’s also possible that coach Gary Patterson turns to redshirt freshman Matt Brown. The Frogs are stacked at running back in Ed Wesley, who rushed for 1,078 yards with 11 touchdowns last year, Matthew Tucker (709 yards, 7 TDs) and Waymon James (513, 5). The offense line might be a question as it must replace four starters. Baylor, of the Big 12, finished last season 7-6 and played in its first bowl
game since 1994, getting walloped by Illinois in the Texas Bowl to end the year
on a four-game losing streak. The Bears do have one of the nation’s most
exciting players in dual-threat QB Robert Griffin. He passed
for 3,501 yards and 22 touchdowns, setting numerous school records overall, and
also rushed for eight scores. He ranked No. 6 in the country in total offense.
Griffin will have his hands full against a TCU defense that was No. 1 in scoring
defense last year. These two teams faced off last Sept. 18 against each other in Fort Worth,
with TCU winning 45-10. TCU scored touchdowns on its first five drives to build
a 35-3 lead before halftime. Wesley ran 19 times for 165 yards with two
touchdowns. Griffin was 16-for-28 for 164 yards with a TD but did nothing on the
ground, rushing 14 times for 21 yards. Baylor (2-1) missed a chance for only its
second 3-0 start since 1996. Since 1996, Baylor is just 3-51 vs. ranked
teams. Bet on college football all season at Bodog!
