The Wisconsin Badgers were big winners this offseason as they landed arguably
the biggest “free agent” in the nation when former N.C. State record-setting
quarterback Russell Wilson decided to end his pro baseball
career – for now – and transferred to Wisconsin for his final season of college
eligibility. Can Wilson lead the Badgers to the Rose Bowl for the second year in
a row? Wisconsin is the 5/4 favorite on Bodog’s NCAA football odds to win the Leaders Division and the
second-favorite behind Nebraska at 13/5 to win the Big Ten title. The Badgers bring back five starters on offense and should have one of the
nation’s top 1-2 punches at running back with James White
(1,052 yards, 14 TDs in 2010) and Montee Ball (996,
18). Wilson — who threw for 8,545 yards and 76 touchdowns as a three-year
starter for the Wolfpack – replaces two-year starter Scott Tolzien
under center. Despite the loss of All-Americans Gabe Carimi
at left tackle and John Moffitt at left guard, UW’s
line again should be very good. Three starters are back from last season and
four other players have at least one start. The defense lost five starters, the biggest being end J.J.
Watt, who had 21 tackles for loss, seven sacks, three forced fumbles,
three blocked kicks, 10 quarterback hurries, eight pass breakups and one
interception. The key to the defense likely will be the health of linebacker
Chris Borland. The 2009 Big Ten Freshman of the Year played
just five quarters last year before having season-ending shoulder surgery. He
was only cleared to fully participate in practices this past weekend. The
secondary is anchored by cornerback Antonio Fenelus, who had
four interceptions and seven pass breakups in 2010. Wisconsin opens the season Sept. 1 vs. UNLV. The Badgers’ over/under win
total at Bodog is 9. Bet on NCAA football futures now at Bodog!
