P>So how important is an offensive coordinator anyways? We might found out the answer to that question this season with Oklahoma State. The Cowboys had one of the nation’s top offenses last year and bring back record-setting quarterback Brandon Weeden and receiver Justin Blackmon, both Heisman candidates. But OSU lost offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen to West Virginia. Can the Cowboys unseat Oklahoma as Big 12 champs this year? OSU is 9/1 on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.

That offense was the best in school history in 2010 and was second in the nation in passing and third in scoring at more than 44 points a game. But the best overall season in school history (11-2) still ended without a Big 12 title. Other program firsts included winning a share of the Big 12 South crown and finishing top-10 in the coaches' poll for the first time since 1984. The Cowboys also finished undefeated on the road for the first time since 1945. Nine starters are back on offense led by Weeden and Blackmon, who both passed up going pro. Weeden set numerous school records last year, including passing yards (4,277) and touchdown passes (34). Blackmon finished with 1,782 receiving yards, sixth-most in NCA history. In each of his team's 13 games, Blackmon finished with at least 105 yards and a touchdown.

The defense is a bit of a question with five starters back. The strength of the unit likely will be the secondary. Safeties Markelle Martin and Johnny Thomas are one of the best duos in the Big 12. Martin has started 24 career games and led the team with 10 pass breakups in 2010 while Thomas added 63 tackles and three interceptions.

OSU opens the season on Sept. 3 vs. Louisiana-Lafayette and has an over/under win total at Bodog of 8.
