Last season was one of the best in school history for Michigan State,
although Spartans fans certainly aren’t happy how it ended. Despite tying with
Wisconsin and Ohio State for the Big Ten title, it was the Spartans who were left out of a BCS
bowl. And then Sparty went to the Capital One Bowl and were pummeled by Alabama.
Can Mark Dantonio’s club take the next step this year and win
the first-ever Big Ten Championship Game? Michigan State is 10/1 to win the
conference and 4/1 on Bodog’s NCAA football odds to win the Legends Division. The offense brings back six starters and might be the most explosive unit in
the conference. It is led by quarterback and Heisman candidate Kirk
Cousins, who could set several career school marks with another good
year. Last season, he completed 66.9 percent of his passes for 2,825 yards and
20 touchdowns, with 10 interceptions. MSU is stacked at running back, led by
Edwin Baker, who rushed for 1,201 yards and 13 TDs and earned
first-team All-Big Ten honors. Cousins’ favorite target will no doubt be WR
B.J. Cunningham, a fourth-year starter who had 50 catches for
611 yards and nine TDs in 2010. The line does have to replace three
starters. The defense lost linebacker Greg Jones, one of the best
defenders in school history. Last year the MSU defense allowed 13 fewer TD
passes than in 2009 as its scoring defense went from 69th in the FBS to 39th.
The 2011 group has potential stars in cornerback Johnny Adams
(second-team All-Big Ten in 2010), tackle Jerel Worthy
(honorable mention) and end William Gholston, a former
five-star recruit. The Spartans open the season Sept. 2 vs. Youngstown State. Their over/under
win total on Bodog is 7. Bet on NCAA football futures now at Bodog!
