One of the highest-profile coaches who is on the hot seat this season is
definitely Mark Richt at Georgia. The Bulldogs haven’t played
in the SEC title game since
2005 and have mostly underachieved since. Last year’s 6-7 record and loss to
non-BCS school Central Florida in the lower-level Liberty Bowl just isn’t
acceptable for Dawg fans. Can Richt turn things around in Athens this year and
get Georgia back to SEC powerhouse status? UGA is 19/10 to win the East Division
(second behind Florida) and 5/1 to win the SEC title on Bodog’s NCAA football odds. The Dawgs bring back six starters on offense, led by QB Aaron
Murray, a Heisman Trophy candidate. Last year as a freshman, Murray
threw for 3,049 yards (second in SEC history by a freshman) and 24 touchdowns.
Murray, however, won’t have A.J. Green or Kris Durham to throw to this year.
That duo accounted for 1,507 of the Bulldogs' 3,151 receiving yards last
season. Softening the blow is the emergence of junior tight end Orson
Charles (26 catches, 422 yards, 2 TDs) and junior wideouts
Tavarres King and Marlon Brown. The running
back position took a big hit with some defections (both forced and voluntary),
meaning that true freshman Isaiah Crowell, the nation’s top
running back recruit, likely will be the main guy there. Two starters return on
the offensive line. The defense brings back seven starters although the two best players from
last year, Justin Houston and Akeem Dent, are
gone. Nose guard Kwame Geathers could be on the verge of big
things after playing sparingly in 2010. He earned spring MVP honors. USC
transfer Jarvis Jones is now eligible as a redshirt sophomore
and will start as the strong-side outside linebacker. Alec
Ogletree, one of the secondary’s bright spots last year at safety as a
freshman, was shifted to inside linebacker. And Georgia is in great shape on
special teams as kicker Blair Walsh and punter Drew
Butler are two of the best in the nation. Georgia opens the season Sept. 3 vs. Boise State in Atlanta. The Bulldogs’
over/under win total at Bodog is 8. Bet on 2011 NCAA football futures now at Bodog!
