One of the hottest coaching seats in the nation this season will be at Clemson, with Tigers coach Dabo Swinney likely needing at least eight wins to keep his job. That’s because the Tigers were 6-7 last season — their first losing mark since 1999 — and have lost to archrival South Carolina in back-to-back seasons for the first time in 40 years. Can the Tigers return to the ACC title game that they lost in 2009? They are 16/1 on Bodog's NCAA football odds to win the conference this season and 6/1 to win the Atlantic Division.

The Clemson offense struggled last season, finishing 88th nationally in yards per game (334.6). The Tigers also finished 111th in red zone efficiency. And this year’s team will have a first-year starting quarterback in and new offensive coordinator in former Tulsa OC Chad Morris, who installed an up-tempo attack. Former touted recruit Tajh Boyd takes the reins at quarterback after watching Kyle Parker struggle through last season. Clemson has to replace leading rusher Jamie Harper but should be fine at running back with Andre Ellington and freshman Mike Bellamy. Ellington rushed for 686 yards and 10 touchdowns in eight games last year before suffering basically a season-ending foot injury. Overall eight starters are expected back on offense.

The Tigers lost one of the best defensive players in school history in Da’Quan Bowers after he had 15.5 sacks and 21 quarterback pressures last year. Bowers was a big reason Clemson was in top 20 in the nation in both scoring defense and total defense in 2011. Junior Malliciah Goodman fills Bowers’ enormous shoes at one end and the line should still be very solid. The biggest question is in the secondary where three starters are gone. Overall five starters are expected back.

Clemson’s over/under wins total at Bodog is 7. The Tigers open their season Sept. 3 vs. Troy.
