No team in college football appears set for a bigger fall this year than national champion Auburn. Off the best season in school history, the Tigers lost 2010 Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton, Lombardi Award winner Nick Fairley and 15 other starters who helped Auburn win its first national title since 1957. Only five starters (not counting special teams) return and that’s the fewest of any Division I program. Can Auburn shock the world and win the SEC again? The Tigers are 28/1 to repeat as conference champs and 12/1 to win the West Division on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.

With the season about two weeks away, the biggest question on offense is who replaces Newton. It’s still a three-way battle at quarterback between true freshman Kiehl Frazier, junior Barrett Trotter and sophomore Clint Moseley. It’s hard to imagine the Tigers going with a true freshman, but the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Frazier is just the kind of dual-threat quarterback offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is looking for in his offense. However, most believe that Trotter, who has thrown nine passes in his collegiate career but has a big arm, winning the job. The focus of the offense will be sophomore RB Michael Dyer. He broke Bo Jackson's school record for rushing yards by a freshman and finished with 1,093. Dyer also won MVP honors in the BCS title game, gaining 143 yards and having the key play late in the game to set up the game-winning field goal. Three of the team's top four receiving threats have moved on, and only one lineman is back.

Only two seniors, linebacker Eltoro Freeman and safety Neiko Thorpe, will start on defense. A big hitter, Thorpe moves to safety after leading the team with nine pass breakups last year as a cornerback. The only returning starter on the line is power end Nosa Eguae.

Auburn opens its season Sept. 3 vs. Utah State. The Tigers’ over/under win total at Bodog is 6.5.
